I have a 50$ plan on my phone and wish to change it to a 25$ plan and it does not give me option to change it now only to add find out on next expiry date.

If you change your plan now you will forego any remaining usage you have paid for. doing a future dated planchange is your most economical method.

the change plan immediatly button should be on bottom left of the screen
