@Taydaysdead FWIW my 5G capable phone is often on LTE in my area (5G elsewhere) and I can still get close to 200 Mbps on a good day even on LTE. Other than the amount of data in a plan, the difference is that 4G plans are throttled to 100 Mbps while 5G plans are limited to 250 Mbps regardless of whether your phone is on 5G or 4G/LTE. If you do want to change plans there are two options as explained, "change now" which results in an immediate change with an immediate charge and no pro-rated refund, or select "change on renewal" which means your replacement plan doesn't kick in until the end of your current plan's 30 day cycle with no charge until that time. Since you only just signed up customer service might switch it for you but you would need to contact them by opening a ticket at the chat icon bottom right of this page or use the private message link @kb_mv gave you.

I just subscribed to a plan with 5g network speeds today, but after activating realized that my device only supports 4g/lte. I want to change my plan to a 4g plan, which costs less, but it wants to double charge me another $33.90 on top of the $40 I paid for the plan with 5g. Is there any way to change this and get the remaining difference added to my account or refunded since it's the same day I activated?

You can still have a 5G plan without a 5G phone. If you want to change and you see the plan you want in your app, select it to change at next renewal. If you change now you WiLL be charged again. You could always contact C/S at the link below as it is the same day and say you made a mistake, see if they will do anything for you.

https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/notes/composepage/note-to-user-id/22437

You may only get 4G speeds or a bit better with the 5G plan, but also realize it's not just about the speeds themselves. IMO speeds as long as they are 4G are more than enough. It's the data allotment that is more important than speed.

You can change plans at any time. When you change them, choose the option for the end of the billing cycle. Just know, Public Mobile won't allow you to drop down in price plans from where you are now which I think is wrong to do for a prepaid service. You can reach out to a CS Agent via the chatbot down at the bottom and enter Customer Service Agent to get help changing it for the next billing cycle to a lower plan. Worse, you port your number out to another service provider.
