Changed my phone number and texts are coming to friends from my old number

I recently moved to another province and changed my number to one with a local area code. I did not change service providers. The only issue is that when I text somebody, it shows on their phone as being from my old number. Is there a fix for this so texts will show as coming from my new number?

Are you using an iPhone? Is it possible it's iMessage that's confused? Does it do the same thing when texting Android? Does it show your new number on their call display when you call them?

Did you reboot your phone after changing your number?

If that didn’t work. Contact a CS_Agent to help you update your number.

Thanks. If I reboot my phone, do I lose all my settings, photos, passwords, apps and everything else? Or do you just mean turn it off and turn it back on? I tried doing that and it didn't change anything.

Hi DennyCrane,

I do have an iPhone, and so does my wife. It was when texting her that I was first made aware of this problem, but other people have also reported it to me. I don't know whether they have Android or iPhone.

You are thinking about a factory reset so DON'T do that.

No you won't lose anything if you reboot your phone. It just resets all you apps. Just power off your phone then power back on.

You can also do a hard restart. Push the volume up button then the volume down button and hold the power button until you see the Apple logo and let go. It will restart and enter the pass code to turn your phone back on.

Go to Settings on your phone

Then to Messages/FaceTime
Switch iMessage/FaceTime OFF
Wait 5 minutes
Edit your iPhone to your new number Settings> Phone> My number
Turn your phone OFF and back ON
Once phone reboots, turn iMessages back ON again
Wait for it to finish activating in iMessage

If that fails, try logging out of your Apple ID, logging back in and resetting the details.
