iPhone tray broken.

My iPhone mini try is broken apple did a diagnostic and I don’t want to pay to get it fixed.
So now I have no service just says sos at the top corner.

I purchased an esim in the app paid the 5 dollars and went through the process on the app to an activate the esim. It didn’t work. Did I forget to do something, I put in a ticket hopefully I’ll get an answer.

what is it didn't work? Give us more details with that

first, check Setttings-> Cellular and check if the PM esim is showing there. You need to make sure it is set as Primary and "Turn on this line is enabled" And, likely you need to click Reset Network Settings once or twice to make it connect

Is the slot or the tray broken? If it's just the tray I'm sure you can find one online for cheap.

I suspect that your phone is detecting the SIM card tray has been removed or has not been inserted propeerly and that you will have no choice but to repair/replace the SIM card tray or you will need to purchase a new device. This would be because of the sotware installed on the device refusing to allow someone to use the device without the tray installed.

This is my son's phone I'm trying to figure out.

His iPhone mini was intermittent on again off again connecting to Public cellular. The sos would show up then 1 min later back to Public.

Now it just says sos. I called apple they did a diagnostic on the phone and it shows the sim card slot is defective. Apple asked does your provider have esim and said yes. So I bought a esim from the app went through the process to install but didn't work, asked to contact support. We also didn't get an QR code e-mailed to us to try to install again.

As you said does the phone still thinks the sim card tray and sim is still active and the e-sim want activate?

Now I deleted the e-sim profile I should have gotten a QR code to try to install again.

What if I did a factory reset?
