Try putting a 1 then putting in the phone number and see if that works.

hi @al424 even local calls, you can still put a 1 in front of the 10 digits and it won't charge you LD. And reboot phone first as well

I'm not in Ottawa, but I was able to call the Global Affairs Canada voicemail line: +1-343-203-0100. If you had issues dialing without a 1 in front, that can help - I've had public mobile think other prefixes in my local city are long distance too (in Saskatchewan) - prefixing solved it.

Interestingly, Global Affairs Canada has had issues in the past with people dialing their new 343 area code numbers, so has a page listing the above number specifically for testing...

I can call +1-343-203-0100 with or without the 1 using Public Mobile. And the dialer recognize it is an Ontario number. So, not sure why some PM lines treated it as a US number

Good to hear further confirmation it seems to be fine for most of us. The dialer showing a particular Country/Province/City is purely a funciton of the phone software itself, not Public Mobile. So it's possible old phones don't have an up to date database of all North American area codes/rate centres. In that case, since Canada and USA share the same country code (+1) an older phone may just show "USA" for a newer area code/prefix not in it's local database.

I guess it would help if OP @al424 can confirm if the issue is just with it showing US when calling, or if there is actually a problem with the call going through.
