giffgaff (a UK company) will mail you a free SIM card to Canada. Possibly they now have eSIM's. You can open an account and have service when you step off the plane, no searching strange airports or malls for retailers. Cost varies from 5 Pounds (about $8) and up for data, unlimited calls and text. They have EU roaming included. For free calls back to Canada, we use Fongo.
