I am currently in the US but did not purchase any add ons. Instead I changed to an eSIM for us data. My phone is set to use the eSIM for data. However I am still getting and able to send text messages. I thought I could only receive but not send. For reference I have an iPhone and was texting to an android phone back in Canada. My question is will I get any surprise roaming charges from PM. I can currently see 2 different bar levels which I understood to be one for primary sim and the 2nd for the eSIM. I did not allow for switching or data roaming on my Primary sim in settings. I thought if I did not purchase an add-on then I would not get service. Also the messages receive have a small”p” symbol next to them which I assume means primary

@Maman70 PM is a prepaid service. There is no surprise charges. If it works great, but you don't have to worry about additional fees. If you are sure your plan doesn't include US coverage and you don't have any roaming add-ons, it might be from the local sim.

Hello @Maman70

Public Mobile only works in the US if you purchase an add on or have the Can/US package. Now, with that being said, SOME people have reported receiving text while in the US but not being able to reply because they don't have a package. However, if you purchased an eSIM, depending if it has data, since you stated you have an iPhone, you may still receive text messages IF the other part is also using an iPhone, using iMessages. However if they are using an Android, you may still get the messages. All in all, you won't get charged any extra fees when you get home since PM is a pre paid service, not a post paid service.

Receiving texts is free in the US. iPhone to iPhone via iMessage is free. Android to Android via RCS is also free. You cannot send **SMS** without a text add-on though, or a Can/US plan (note that iMessage between iPhone's and RCS between Androids is not SMS).
