Public Mobile will only work in Canada and the United States. Purchasing a US add on will have zero value to you. Plus, from what my buddy told me, you can purchase data allotments on the cruise. And if you REALLY wanted to, you can download a VOIP like TextNow on your phone, use the WiFi on the cruise and other areas of port to make and take calls from back home.

Why wouldn't you just switch to the $34 5G 50 GB CAN/USA plan and then have an entire month of calling and not have to spend an additional $30 + whatever your current plan is?

I imagine that as long as you are within US borders, your plan is fine. Once you enter foreign waters (if you are) then your plan would become useless without a different package as only Canada and the US applies.
