My husband and I have older phones. A Samsung S8 and Samsung S10. We are considering changing to one of the promotions for Can-USA plan for travelling in USA. Will we be able to use our older phones in USA with the 5G system? Thank you.

HI @Canlab

even with a "5g" plan, you don't need to connect to the 5G network. You can still access 4G network in US (AT&T and T-Mobile) and in Canada to use the data. So, just upgrade if you want to

but with an old phone, the voice might not work well in US as your phone likely not VoLTE compatible, so you will need to use the 2G network with T-Mobile for voice in US. But you are all good in Canada, PM still have the 3G network for voice for all plans

@Canlab Just to add that if you have to drop to T-Mobile's 2G because your phones are not VoLTE compatible/enabled, that network is also expected to shutdown on April 2. The US networks already shut down 3G which is why for voice calls you are best with a VoLTE phone (Voice over LTE) in the USA.
