Esim or Physical Sim in a New Device

Hey all,

I've been using an esim for the last six months or so and am going to be upgrading my phone soon. Looks like I can buy a new esim or physical sim for the new phone and the transfer process is similar. Any recommendations? Anyone made this transition on an android device yet?

Personally I recommend a physical card. Do NOT purchase it through PM itself as it could take weeks to get it. Contact a local Telus store in your area and see if they have one or Amazon

The reason I say physical is because if your phone breaks or needs to go in for repair, you can just take out the SIM card and put it in your loaner or spare phone. You WILL have to purchase a new eSIM card if your phone breaks or goes in for repair and will cost more in the end. Just my opinion.

i suggest you buy a physical sim.

esim is good, but it will cost you $5 to each time you change phone. Some people reset phone by mistake or need to reset phone for repairs, and they need to pay $5 agian for esim

@TrevorF1980 If you like to upgrade phone often as I do best to stick with physical sim you have to rebuy esim every time . And you can do this in your account once you have SIM card in hand profile page and someway the number

Note only do this on lap top or computer/ not mobile device

This is great. Will manually changing the number automatically delete the esim profile on my old device? What's the lag time like before the new sim is up and running?

yes

all you need to do is to buy a new PM physical sim from Telus or Koodo store

Then put the new phsyical sim in a phone, reboot and done!!

Your suggestion worked really well. It was quick and easy. I purchased the sim from Amazon. I totally get that esim may be the way of the future, but I wouldn't recommend it to someone who was setting up their own phone. Thank you!

@TrevorF1980 I never recommend eSIM it seems to be the general consensus here too just stick to physical sim until your forced to use the money grabbing esim
