Phone number needed for referral?

Someone on Reddit was asking for a referral code, but that they needed a phone number to go along with it. Is that a new, legit thing, or did I just give my phone number for no reason? Should I be concerned about this?

By providing only the referral code, Public mobile is able to identify which account it belongs to to credit the account. It is unique and created for you only. There should be no reason to provide anyone with your phone number.

@mraiger No you don’t need to give your phone number . Just the referral code is all that’s needed . But I wouldn’t worry to much about it . You can change phone number in your account profile page if you really want to

As long as this person cannot access my account with a code and phone number, then I shouldn't have anything to worry about.

@mraiger Correct . They would need to know your email and password to gain access
