I'm just taking a gander here, usually the QR codes take them to the PM website and such. I'm thinking maybe you have a virus or trojan to allow website manipulation. Just a guess that maybe your browser was hijacked by something he downloaded.

My dad was attempting to sign up for public mobile. After he created an account it told him to scan a QR code to verify his membership but it took him to another website for Digital Memberships Premium. Why was this linked through the public mobile account creation process? Now he had to go through the hassle of calling to cancel this and inform his credit card to not accept any charges.

If so, the QR code should be just asking him to download the PM app and ask him to complete the subscription using the app

Please go to app store to download the PM app
