I initially thought public and freedom were in a price war. Not that I'm a fan of freedom but they are winning decisively. Here is there offer today. C'mon public, you can match this.

@Jlund It's a great deal, not gonna lie. The deal is only valid for a 24 month period before one would lose the $5/month credit though. That said, there is so little cellphone service provider competition that it wouldn't be wise for these big monopolies to drive down the price of the market. If these large companies stay the course, they will continue to shovel in millions and billions in profits which essentially ensures that they all win. None of them will win if they try to undercut each other's prices. That's the reality of what it's like when certain markets are controlled by monopolies.

Can't disagree it'd be nice to see PM be at the $34/40 level, at least for a 4G plan. I'd still stay here since the network is better and I'm not a fan of plans with a built-in price increase (even if it is 2 years out).

But yeah - c'mon, PM!

Yep. PM never offered me the $25 5GB plan as an upgrade from my $15 plan. I was able to grab a $20 4G plan elsewhere and have it on an eSIM for additional data while figuring out which to keep. They are leaving money on the table by not being competitive.

One thing I'll say is that for the first Black Friday in almost forever, it's nice to see companies make a big spash in the amount of data they are offering their clients. I hope that this isn't just a 1 time offer. Hopefully this sets the bar for more attractive plans for a year round basis.

Additionally, I hope that the CRTC revisits their Low-cost wireless service plan criteria. The $15 dollar plan barely meets the needs of the average Canadian. Times have changed very rapidly and almost everything takes place online. 250MB is barely enough if someone is in a dire emergency.

Yes, these are all very outdated. $35 minimum just for picture messaging? Texting overage fees and long distance charges within Canada? None of that is very relevant today.

I used to rarely go over my 250mb but now it seems I'm dipping into the holiday add-ons every month.

For anyone following this thread: PM just added a matching $34 for 40GB + unlimited plan, matching the Freedom price. I'd also note that the PM price won't go up in two years, plus there are whatever points/rebates you have.
