downside of esim..now you need a new esim from PM.

eSIM is not transferrable. You have to purchase new eSIM or just revert to with 'normal' hardware SIM which you can pull/push into any phone thus 'transferring' service 'for free'.

This should be possible on iPhones, as it is a feature that works with iOS 16 and newer, just not sure if PM supports it. As for Android the feature is in beta testing, should be out some time in 2024.
