Iphone not in 5G

Hi community, I just swtiched my subcription from a 3G plan to a 5G plan today. However when I check my iphone it still says its on a 3G network. Does anyone know why this is?

Did you reboot? Also, do a speed test to confirm speeds. It may not always say 5G but you'll get 5G speeds

@Brad22 probably is your network mode setting. Change to 5G Auto or 5G On

Settings. .. Cellular. ..Cellular Data Options. ...

Did this but the only options are LTE and 3G, no 5G availible.

Yes did a reboot a couple of times. How do I test speeds and what should it be on 5G network?

What iPhone do you have? 5G support was added with the iPhone 12, so if you have an earlier model, you'll be limited to LTE connections.

one thing you need to know...whenever you do a speedtest (with wifi disabled)...you're consuming your data. You can burn through alot of data with 2 or 3 of those speedtests.

It's not that bad of data usage. 1GB or less a speed test. Most 5G plans have 40GB and or unlimited after that.

So 2 or 3 speedtests will burn up +-2 or -+3GB's of your data. Maybe it's just me, but that's seems like a substantial amount of my data for a few speedtests.

Upgrading from a 3G plan to a 5G plan...it could take a day or 2 for the 5G to take effect.

Well he did say he did it today so it shouldn't take long for it to take effect. It should be right away. Unless he set it to change on his renewal date, in which is probably the reason his 3G speeds are still in affect. @Brad22 needs to confirm if he changed it for right away or at RD. Guess we'll find out sometime when he replies.

@Brad22 What phone do you have? Anything before the iPhone 12 is not 5G. But it doesn't really matter anyway. Your 5G plan doesn't mean you have to use the 5G network. Even 3G plans (with a compatible device) can access the 4G and 5G networks. Your plan speed just determines your max speed. Also note that the 4G network is capable of higher speeds than a 4G plan offers. Long story short, subscribe to the plan that provides the data bucket you need, and don't worry so much about not being connected to the 5G network.

@BKNS27 Is your iPhone a US version? Just wondering if that's why it doesn't have the 3G option like my Canadian iPhone 13?

No this is a Canadian version with my old Bell SIM in the iPhone 14 PM and the 3G option is on the bottom of the list below LTE.

@BKNS27 I may have worded that badly, what I meant was that my iPhone 13 shows 3G but in your iPhone screenshot there is no 3G option.
