Are you able to customize your last four digits after u got the phone number

You can only do that during an activation of your first SIM. If you want to attempt to customize your number after you have an account, the only way to do that is to buy a new SIM, and reactivate it as if you're a brand new customer, as you would need a brand new account.

The number selection process offer beer little choice. There's no option for customization. You get a tiny pick list.

I don't think you can customize exactly the last four digits of your phone number, but when you log into your own self serve account, click on "Plans and Add-On" tab, and then click "Change Phone Number" you can select a new number from a pre-selected list of available numbers depending on which local calling area you want.
