This ad is clearly meant to be tongue a cheek as partly a joke. What is likely meant is that a new customer can use and friend or family members old phone after being gifted. It's technically possible to use someone else's phone (legally) if you have permission. I could see this add being pulled soon, because it really does sound like "steal a phone; we'll let you use it". Either way, the ad worked because people are talking about it now.

Agree with the gist of what you are expressing PJ-Home.

In the context of being Canadian, living next to the behemoth that wants to dispense with NAFTA and raise trade barriers, when we, their large trade and cultural partner next door to the exceptional republic, and in that system down there the losing national party secretly works with the alphabet spy agencies to try to discredit and foist false claims to somehow undo a valid elected government, the notion of more suggestive or aggressive advertising for mobile wireless phones, isnt really that prominent of an issue. Citizens everywhere dont want alphabet spy agencies claiming 'trust us' we are only watching you to 'protect you'. Moreover, Canadians dont want huge Verizons or AT&T up here knocking out Canadian companies, but we do want competition and a variety of different product offerings, styles and lower good-value pricing -- we would now seem to have that in a Public Mobile model.

FWIW, i think the limmerick chosen by PM marketing, ... "or someone elses" might be an exhortation for over-billed, exhausted users of the 'two monopolist carriers' (if they have paid for their phones, and now own them, pull the corporate SIM cards, (ask them for the Unlock Code since as of Dec-5, 2017 the carriers are not supposed to lock the phone proprietarily anymore - and Telus gave me the lock code over the phone to unlock a brand new Telus Blackberry Passport i am not using, why not the jolly red mister roger and big blue ring teh bell company do this) and WALK AWAY from the high-price service. and come on over to Public Mobile where you can easily build your own little plan, without having to be on contract forever paying for that financed phone).

Think the message of the advertisement was 'dont be afraid to walk away from high prices' (and frequent billing 'mysteries'). Likewise, don't fall for the inuendo that Public Mobile and other small carriers aren't stable, or consistent enough in coverage, when in fact PM runs very well of Telus grid, and its self-managing your own Account administration isnt that onerous. I do note the comments of some fellow PMers out in Maritimes and other spots where retail access to SIM cards and voucher top ups is distant from your town. With success, and larger additions of users on PM, that will improve.
