Free data for specific apps?

In some countries, phone companies setup free data usage on certain apps like WhatsApp and Waze. I've never seen this in CA/US, but I'm wondering if this is something we have with Public and just don't know about it.

Here is an example from a phone company in Brazil where Evernote, Microsoft 365, Outlook, Waze, WA, and Skeelo (audiobooks app) can be used with no limits, without counting towards your data usage.

So, is there such a thing in Canada, or at Public?

There is no free data for specific uses. I do not believe that Public Mobile would be allowed to do this because of net neutrality laws.

I don't ever recall any such data costing model in Canada.

But wouldn't net neutrality support more accessible services? I think section 7 of the Act would support such services though.

Doubt it will happen @SparklyKitty , but okay to hope.

The best we can get is throttled down data on certain plans after cycle limits are met.

Sorry, I don't think any Canadian provider has this. I don't think any provider even has free data usage when accessing their own app

What is see is likely a join deal between the provider and those app vendors (like Microsoft, Amazon, etc)

Koodo and the others used to offer unlimited BBM even without data.
