Found the problem by taking advice from responders. Deleted the +1 in front of the number and it works fine 🙏

Does it seem to be going through as far as you know? Is it only just the one number? Maybe he blocked your number. Can he give you another number to test like from a friend or relative of his? Can you share the first 6 digits of his phone number? There are some places you can't call but I'm not sure if you can't text those restricted numbers.
Can you real sms text people in Canada?

iphone or Android? If Android then maybe you could clear the app cache of the texting app you're using. Or edit his contact using a one digit off number and then manually type his number and try to text to it. Is the friend in the US and using a US provider? Or physically here and not roaming?

you can setup the test yourself. Download The VoIP app TextNow, pick a US phone number and test sms there

and any chance you are on iPhone and your friend on Android ?

I can't text another US number. My Phone is a Moto 5 Pure, not sure what he has.

@Catloverx2 you can try to setup VoIP app with US phone number to confirm

Also, check usage history and see if the text you sent is there

you can also download Google Message, set it as the default and test again

What we're basically saying is that you certainly should be able to text to the states (and everywhere else). So read the replies carefully and try to test or answer all the questions so we can help narrow down where the problem might be.

Took the +1 away in front of the actual number. A friend had the same problem texting her sister who live out of town.
