Cannot call a US # from Canada

Hi there, I have been having issues calling my sister's cell phone in the US from Canada for a couple of weeks now. I have international minutes as well as US long distance minutes, wondering if anyone else has ran into this issue?

Try setting phone to 3G, then making the call.

Any difference?

Does this occur for other US numbers, or just your sister?

Is your sister with Public and roaming in the states? Or has a Canadian number elsewhere and roaming?

she is an American citizen, this problem just started happening. when I dial it doesn't even ring

And you've clicked the spinner refresh icon under Shop Add-ons or logged in using private mode to make sure you still have those add-ons? Maybe you actually used them all.

I just tried this, there is no difference.

I am able to call my mother and have no issues being connected, so it is just. my sister's number

@Jmorrison87 what the area code of your sister? and can you randomly call another number similar to your sister's but change the last 2 digits to see if it goes through? Just to confirm if it is a problem with that area code and exchange or just your sister's number

As a workaround for now, download VoIP app TextNow, you can make free calls to US using Wifi or Mobile Data with the app

Are you able to text her? Do they go through? (real SMS text not just imessage instant messaging)

there has been no difference, I changed to 3g, restarted my phone. she can call me, my number is not blocked, and I am able to get through to my mother who also lives in the states.

Can you share the first 6 digits of her number? Not the last 4. If you don't mind telling us what area she has a number from. Does your mother happen to have the same area code and prefix?

when you dial sis, can you hear the usual ring ? Maybe sis has your number blocked...did you guys recently argue ? 😁

Could sis have her phone set to bluetooth...that way any calls go to her car or other device connected to bluetooth.

She has to check if your number is blocked on her device. But if texts go through, your number is likely not blocked.

And what recording you got when the number not gone through? busy tone? or actual recording saying some error code?

did you try to call other numbers in her area code and same exchange? Like change the last digit or last 2 digits of her phone number and see if it goes through

Again, you can try using VoIP app TextNow to make calls as a workaround for now

Sounds like the problem might be on sis's end...not your end.

so I spoke with my father and sister and they are having the same issues (we are all with different carriers so it must be an issue on her end)

Good troubleshooting on your part, @Jmorrison87

Best to isolate an issue like this to discern whether device, network, or account issue. Fact that OTHERS on different networks also having troubles reaching her points almost squarely as being something on her end.

Is she also having problems getting calls from others within the USA?

I believe where @dust2dust was going with that was that calls made to the following numbers (starting with six digit combinations below) are not included in US calling from Canada and will not be completed when dialed:

712-432,

605-562,

641-552,

605-475,

605-477,

712-775,

559-726.

You need US calling add-on to call US, or a Canada US plan, do you have one of the two?
