Stupid question, but I'm in need of a new phone and plan. I'm leaning towards a Samsung Galaxy S7, but I've read they lock to a carrier once the SIM is installed. I'll be travelling in December, so once I activated the SIM, could I walk into a Telus store and ask them to unlock it since PM uses their network?

@sygnols

If you buy an unlocked s7 and it locks to the PM network for the first SIM entered, you can ask the moderators for the network unlock code by sending a private message using this link: @CS_Agent.

You can also go online to Samsung.ca, speak with a rep through their online chat and they will be able to provide the same code to you since it's an unlocked device from purchase (or is supposed to be). I've chatted with the Samsung reps before and they are easy to deal with. You have to provide them with the store you purchased the unlocked s7 from.

I doubt the reps at the Telus store would help as you're not their customer.
