It's activated as soon as you "buy" it and expires exactly 240 hours after.

I know you've chosen a solution but your choice of words makes me ask...did you "buy" the add-on using points? ie. redeem? I seem to think there's a delay in the points redemption but I'm not sure.

Using money to buy the add-ons is immediate.
