Anyone do a speedtest on 15GB/$40 plan yet?

It says it's "4G" speeds, right? But I did a speedtest from speed.cloudflare.com and it never really got over 4 Mb/s download rate.

I compared my old $40/5GB at 3G plan:

to the new $40/15GB "4G" plan:

Same location, same phone (iPhone 14 Plus).

Seems like the new plan is also throttled.

Anyone else do a speedtest on the new 15GB plan?

It will take about 48 hours for the data speed to change over for the plan change.

When did your plan change? It takes up to 48 hours for your data speed to unthrotte.

Wow....you were getting 4.74mbps on a "3G" plan? I'm lucky if I can get 2.5mbps on average.

Ah ok, it's been about 48 hours already, but I'll wait another 24 and test again.

Maybe with all the craziness and downtime, the process is delayed.

Anyone else do a speedtest they can share from the new $40/15GB 4G plan, though? That was the original question 🙂

@mig39 before you test next time, try a reboot

Also, test in different area, not just your home or your work, just in case it is some local network issue.

I have the unlucky $13 plan with full speed 4G LTE data but I'm reluctant to do a speed test and waste my add on data.....there's no plan data to play with.

I literally did a reboot, thinking the same thing 🙂

I tested in the same area, to be consistent. But I'll try again from right under a Telus tower tomorrow 🙂

But I just recently switched, so maybe it hasn't updated to the router that does the throttling yet.

Yes, that's always a concern. I wonder if there's a decent speedtest site out there that doesn't use too much data?

Oh I have plenty of data on the account....21GB but I still don't want to waste 400mb on a speedtest.

There are "lighter" speed tests but I don't trust their results because when compared to others their results are much lower speeds. You can perform a speed test and cut off a few seconds into the test to get a general idea of data speed with it costing a quarter or less of data used for a full test.

As a comparison, here's a speedtest from the same phone, same location, but using a European e-sim (Orange France) that's supposed to offer "3G" speeds when roaming in Canada. It's roaming on Telus, so same tower, but using the 5G antenna:

That was only 2 seconds or so of testing before I chickened out and force-quit Safari 🙂 I wonder how much data that used! Anyway, it's *supposed* to be throttled to 3G speeds, but I think it would just keep climbing. And 5G is more sensitive to distance, I think, so if I were closer I'm sure it would be faster.

The same SIM averages around 1Mb/s when it roams on Rogers.

You may have the opposite issue with it being on a new network it hasn't throttled yet?

This thread may help as it gives a speedtest from a month ago....82mbps. And a case of the 4G LTE full download speed having a glitch. So if your data speed doesn't improve by tomorrow you should contact customer support. Also consider the fact that your plan didn't change until payment was taken.....so rather than midnight eastern when your data counter resets your plan probably didn't update and change until sometime between 6am and noon eastern.

my download speed is anywhere from 7mb-90mb. if the device is connecting to LTE not LTE+ the speed is around 7mb

I'm not too sure what's going on with the upload speed. but it seems PM is throttle it with these new 4g plans

Neither of those speed tests from when you were on either the 3g or 4g plan are thottled. Unfortunately, this is probably as good of a speed you get unless you run the test again in a differetnt location.

The best you're going to see on this plan is about 100Mbps downloads and about 10Mbps uploads. Yes, these speeds are possible but it depends largely on the network and available capacity of the network in each specification testing location.

That's interesting. Was that in the same place? I really do think that there was a network issue because your previous tests give indication that this wasn't the result of the normal 48 hour delay for change of speed. The 3Mbps 3g plans wouldn't have been close to being able to providing more than 6Mbps upload speeds.
