If you have the $15 plan...it has only limited outgoing calls to anywhere in Canada. Checking your voicemail uses up somma those minutes too. You can buy the $5 / 500 minutes of Canada wide calling add-on to be used if you run outta regular plan minutes. If you don't use all the add-on minutes when regular plan renews...those add-on minutes just roll over until you need them again. I have some unused add-on minutes from a year ago.

Let us know which plan you have and we can make other suggestions too.

Turn data on to see if that helps with the text message issue.

Similar question could ordinary dude ask auto-mechanic: I cannot start car! What is wrong? WHO knows? Maybe your SIM is loosing contacts, maybe your phone is dying, maybe cell tower is acting up...

Reboot phone, re-seat SIM; clean SIM port; try your SIM in another phone, many things you could try on your own. Mobile phones are work of Devil so live with it 😈😱🤕

This will give you a brand new connection to the network. It sounds like you have a poor connection to the network.

@hairbag1

The issue is with receiving calls....not sending them. Having data enabled would only help with MMS it makes no difference with SMS texts.
