How is my caller id supposed to work?

Hi there,

so i have a question about the caller id that comes with plans. currently when my mom or dad calls me, their name that is present on their phone contract shows up under their number which is under mom or dad (so i.e "Mom,905-905-9055,xxxx xxxx). however, for some numbers say a friend of mine, it will only show the name that i put into my phone, along with their number. i was wondering whats the difference and whats causing this?

Yes, not all names will display on your caller id. That is why we have Contacts to save the number with the name. Even landline or VoIP phones show some names but not all. Though, I am not really sure why that happens.

Hey @ba14ii,

I think it depends on the individual's privacy preference. Some have selected to show name and number, some opted for just number, and some elected to keep their name and number private.

I think I saw a post recently that suggested Name Display may be working for calls to a PM number originating from another provider. That would allow you to see the name and number of the person calling even if they aren't saved to your contacts.

I don't know how accurate that report was though as I haven't tested it for myself.

Thanks. That could be it but the issue only persists with friends who are on Telus and koodo networks, otherwise numbers from any other provider shows the name on the contract
