data being used yet find iphone and everything else says device is off

i lost/misplpaced phone, couldnt locate, tried calling several times and its off, that was may 29th. i have data charges today may 31st, how is that possible?

@Rryan1988 Log into My Account, put your phone in Lost/Stolen first. This will for sure stop any further usage

Go to Plan and Add-ons page and click on Lost/Stolen Phone to Suspend the service.

Also, you tried to locate your phone with findmyphone service: https://www.apple.com/ca/icloud/find-my/

By any chance, are you customer at a carrier other than Public Mobile? I only ask because there are no such thing as data charges at Public Mobile. It sounds to me as if someone has been using the phone. The person could be rejecting all phone calls or may have tutned the device back on at some point since you last checked. Someone may also be using your SiM card in another device.

yes im aware how to do that its more the phone itself im concerned about, also i didnt lose it, the RCMP lost it but wont admit it so im leavin it active until something happens, they cant legally go through until they have a warrant, which they dont, they play this game and if they wait long enough you give up, im not giving up

It's miniscule but perhaps the thief turns it on for a moment and then off. Find phone would not work while off. You'd have to time it just right to hit it when it was on.

So have you used the lost/stolen function on the self-serve to stop any usage on the account yet?

and the only calls are the device redirecting to voicemail

no i havent im not concerned about that, could it be the GPS chip thats drawing the data? cause you can track the phone with imei IF they have one which does require data, GPS does work when unit is off

The spam filter is automated. A lot of false positive here and there

So, you found your phone yet? did you go to My Account and mark it Lost/Stolen?

I saw that post disappear after the seeing a nasty red box when I was replying.

What you're seeing is a miniscule consumption of data, not a charge or fee.

If the GPS location services was off then the GPS method would not work. GPS itself does not use data. Navigation apps would. Online maps would obviously.

But all this searching requires the phone to be on. You can't know the moments it might be turned on for you to do a search.
