Texts only arrive with wifi

Unable to receive texts away from a wifi connection. Have minimal plan which I thought includes "unlimited" texts. Can anyone suggest why texts are not appearing 'in the field' and only appear when arriving home and connecting to wifi?

Are all your other services working? Have you tried rebooting, resetting network settings, reinstalling SIM card, clearing texting cache, trying SIM card in another unlocked phone.

@kenholman Sound like you are using iMessage or RCS instead of native SMS.

What is the could of the text you got? these is how to distinguish them:

You can turn off iMessage or RCS if you don't meant to send using them

To turn off iMessage on iPhone

On your iPhone, go to Settings.
Tap Messages.
Toggle off iMessage.

To turn off RCS on Android

Open Messages by Google. Ensure you are on the page that lists different message threads with different contacts.
Tap the three dots in the top right corner.
Tap Settings.
Tap Chat features.
Toggle off Enable chat features.
