Do these add ons allow calls and texts from USA to Canada ? Do they need to be purchased with a specific plan?

Yes, that is correct. You can purchase these add-ons with any plan. The 10 days start immediately so purchase them just before you go.

@Curry29 yes the roaming addons allow you to use your service is US. If you get thr one includes TEXT, you can text from US to Canada then

@Curry29 Yes you'll be able to call back to Canada from the US with a roaming package (with calling/texting option). Your plan only needs to be active to use the roaming option.

To purchase roaming you need to first add the funds and then back to the Add-on page to purchase the applicable add-on. It's advised to purchase the add-on as close to your travel date as possible as it's active immediately and is only available for 240 hours period. Try selecting T-Mobile or AT&T manually if you have any problems connecting to the US networks.

But if you just need text, download TextNow for free calls and text to Canada and US. You have wifi, then you can use it.

@Curry29 The US roaming plans are available to every Public customer no matter what plan you have. All you just have to do is add money/credit to your account, select the US Roaming packages, and click on buy. Don't confuse it for the 1000 minutes US talk, that's for calls to US from Canada. Just select the US roaming packages. Just remember to activate it at the beginning of your trip, because they have 10 day expiry times.

Any plan can have US add-on and they are used to call/SMS from US to Can.

US Roaming for 10 day packages

Unlimited U.S. Talk, Text and 250MB Data Bundle = $20

Unlimited U.S. Talk and Text Bundle = $15

Unlimited U.S. Talk Only = $8

Unlimited U.S. Text Only = $8

U.S. Data Only for 10 day packages

250MB = $10

500MB = $15

1GB = $20

You don't need to purchase US roaming text add-on to receive incoming texts while in US.

Just be mindful that they are only 10 days long so if you are there longer, there is usually a 24 hour buffer period between activating anokther add on, unless you contact an agent to get it manually done for you. If it's beyond that 10 days there may be cheaper and more efficient options.
