All of the iPhones from iPhone 5 on use Nano SIMs. So unless the SIM in the iPhone 5s has been physically damaged somehow, or the SIM port on the iPhone 8 is damaged, or the old SIM on the iPhone 8 has not been removed completely, you should be able to easily switch the SIM from your iPhone 5s into the iPhone 8 with no problems. Check both the SIM you are trying to transfer and the port on the iPhone 8 for issues first, and if they are OK then the SIM should fit.

Since the phone number and plan are associated with the SIM you should also still have the same number and plan.

There are small spacers so it will fit the SIM tray.

You might be lucky if you go to a cell store and ask nicely if they have any spacers in their garbage.
