When you send an iMessage, there should be an option 'hold down' the message just sent and "Send as a text message"

Also, what happens when you turn OFF data and wifi... does your messaging services revert to SMS?

I've done that, turned phone off and on, nothing seems to work

iMessage moves over wifi or data. And only to another Apple user. iMessage is in a blue bubble.

Go to settings, messages, turn on iMessage, send as sms, mms messaging, group messaging

Now try to send a text to an android user....should be green bubble.
