From what I've seen, phones can be set to have a decreasing history of connection types. Most of us will have the list starting with LTE. As you are probably aware from being an oldtimer here and presumably doing a good bit of reading here, it would seem that Telus is mucking about with their networks in some areas or progressively throughout. The workaround seems to be to then set the list starting with the 3G types. Or 3G only. I don't think any phone offers LTE-only in the network selection.

But hey you're the old pro here. Sorry if my wording wasn't clear.

@Anonymous no worries, think I get it now. Funny, it varies from phone to phone and provider to provider.

For example, here's the list from my OnePlus 7 (OxygenOS 11 on Android 11) with Koodo SIM card:

Yet, for Koodo on my Pixel 6 (Android 12), I get this menu:

Basically the same except the Pixel offers up 5G while the OnePlus doesn't have that feature, and the Pixel truncates the descriptions down to just the highest "G" of the option.

My Fido SIM in the same Pixel 6 must be too old to be aware of 5G since it only offers:

I got a new Koodo eSIM since the OnePlus had dual physical SIMs while the Pixel has one physical and one eSIM; hence the Koodo eSIM is current, while I've had the Fido SIM for maybe 3-4 years. Interestingly, I don't believe Koodo actually offers 5G to its customers, so kind of odd that it's an option. Regardless I've had it set to max LTE since I got the phone, for battery efficiencies (so it's never searching for a 5G signal).
