Dial assist.

Would like to use the +1 option for ease of calling LD no matter where I am.

Yes I know we can only call from Canada or USA.

But would like to have the best worked out contact list numbers.

i see for iPhone 8 Plus iOS 15.1 I should also have another option of DIAL ASSIST.

But not there and have read can be controlled by carrier.

So does PM offer dial assist?

I know...why would they? But why not? I might need a UK sim some day.

What does Dial Assist do?

How often do you actually dial numbers? Most calls from most people to most people are made by opening a contact (or a number in call history) and pressing one button. How can "dial assist" make things easier than pressing one button?

Dial Assist automatically determines the correct international or local prefix when dialling.

It makes a significant difference to building your contacts list.

It allows to be oblivious in regards to area code when dialling a number in your list while you are in another country.

@CountyDownIeUk : Seems to be not a carrier thing. Indeed though, why not just set all your contacts to have + in front. Local calling will still work. The system will think what's this for and discard it. When next you're in Northern Ireland it'll think oh I need that.

+ 1 or 1 for USA and Canada LD? Or just the 10 digit number with + for all USA and Canada numbers?

And what about UK and Mexico numbers?

@CountyDownIeUk : For all your numbers in your contacts.

+ country code (1 for CA/US) area code number.

Wherever you are it'll use or discard the + as needed.

Watch those area code and numbers with leading zeros. You could have trouble when in that country.

Dial Assist is the answer to allow and LD number to be called from afar or while in the city of.

But PM does not support Dial Assist.

Would this be a correct interpretation of +1?

So from what I can see is that the +1 means

……calling from contacts list while Vancouver to Victoria….the +1 says if I need a 1 use it

.......and say calling the same number from your contacts list whilst in Victoria…..the +1 says if you don’t need the 1 don’t use it.

And setting up calls to Mexico or UK

........+011 does not like the 0.

+ [country code] [area code] number

CA/US country code is 1.

Other regions may have leading zeros for country codes, area codes, numbers. When calling them from CA/US drop the leading zero. Have another number associated with the contact that includes any leading zero for when you're in that country.

You can call a local number without the 1.

You can call a local number with the 1.

You can call a local number with the +1.

So Canada and USA numbers. All numbers are ok with the prefix of +1?

And say UK. No 011 or +011.....and use +44 and the rest of the number only? And the + some how auto adds the 011?

Well......who would think,......only (some) Canadians would be the ones to not know how to call Canada from another country!!!!!

To call Canada from UK you need to dial an exit code of 00 then 1 for Canada.
