If you are not particularly attached to your number, you can request a new number (via your self-serve account). There is no charge for this.

Then be suspect of any call that is a number only on your caller ID and be prompt to block numbers. You can also verify some numbers at 800Notes. I have impeccable contacts on my VoIP landline and iPhone. Life is good...call wise!!!!!

And also as mentioned there are a number of options in “do not disturb” of which one is...your phone will not accept calls if you do not have the number in your contacts list.

Your contacts list is the key.

There isn’t a way to stop these calls apart from the blocking you mentioned. The do not disturb from 10 pm to 7 am is a good start but spammers use auto-dialers so we’re powerless until the government does something. Speaking of that, write to your MP and the CRTC and better yet a petition. At a minimum, register your number here:

https://lnnte-dncl.gc.ca/en/Consumer/Register-your-number/#!/

The do not call registration is not the best. It provides a list to those that don’t have to abide by it. Ie political calls, charities etc. And it also expires. We have been off the list for years and have our own controls in place as mentioned above.

Also keep in mind do not disturb from 10 pm to 7 am has options to let calls come through to you...that you would want.

I am suspect of something. While we do receive spam calls, we never receive calls from the countries you mentioned. But both you and daughter do......do you think possibly the callers phones have been hacked for their contact lists. You might both have to do some deep thinking of who has your number or who/where you may have given it to..verbally or online etc.

If you are in situations where you are unsure of giving your phone number out can I recommend. Get the Fongo App and a local number. It is all free. Then give out the Fongo number and have it forward to your PM number. Then you can isolate the issue. Keep in mind use the Fongo number every now and then to keep it valid. Like call yourself.

Register on the (Canadian) Do Not Call List

https://lnnte-dncl.gc.ca/en

Register on the (American) National Do Not Call Registry (many "foreign" telemarketers/spammers are hired by American companies and so must abide by American laws).

https://www.donotcall.gov/

I happen to live near a call center called Stream or Convergys or Concentrix. Which happens to be physically located on Native Land. Which seems to basically make it exempt from Canadian laws, lol. I politely asked them to remove my name/number from their lists and to never call again, so far they've politely complied.

The DNCL registries aren't going to do anything to stop unethical, unlicensed, or illegal spam callers. But they can still remove a ton of spam calls anyhow, at least for some people. Signup is maybe little gain, but also definitely nothing to lose.

Public Mobile (Telus) does not implement UNCB to capture spoofed calls. And their official response to squirm out of CRTC compliance basically amounts to saying "we don't offer this feature on our network because customers can screen and block calls on their own devices".

While on the flipside, the CRTC does not allow services like TrapCall to be offered to Canadian consumers. Arguing that forcing callers to reveal a number is "an invasion of privacy".

Anyone else just get our landline number.

We do that too. But what I find real handy is that our landline is voip.ms. And the first box I bought off of a guy that loved to program voip.ms. He told me he had a land line number but no phone and that both his and his wife phone rang when some one call their land line. I did the same but all phones ring....both mobile phones, and land line. First one to pick up the other 2 stop ringing. Another reason for contact lists to be up to date on ALL phones. So when we are at Costco or? and both our phones ring we know it is our land line. We can really throw people off that know us, and and we say that we are in the car or? and they have called our land line. Very handy and not a whole lot of telling any one of our mobile numbers....just family and real close friends. The extra cost to do that on voip.ms is minimal.

And also we can use our land line number on our mobile phones too, using an APP over Data or Wifi. I have it set up caller ID 2 ways ... one with our home number...and one with my mobile number.
