updating Alcatel Android phone OS

Have an Alcatel 5041C android phone OS shows as 3.18.16.1612.15 Cannot update it to latest OS which is 8.1 Have tried updating .....seems to update for a second (and I mean second) then tells me on subsequent tries that I have the latest OS ...but still shows as the 3.18 etc My bank security app tells me the OS requires updating before I can access my on line banking Thank you for any help provided

I'm not sure how comfortable you are manually updating, but the files required and instructions are located here.

is your phone from one of the major Can. carriers?

For some Global phones, the update might not work due to location issue.

I see some Asian phones, when they are here, it keeps saying up-to-date. But when the phones is used back in Asia, couple new updates come down.

So, you might need to download it and flash it yourself rather than through the update option on the phone. Check with links with the other replies above

@lexy80 , Alcatel phones are notorious for poor OS support. If an OTA update is not provided, then you are out of luck. I would not recommend doing any manual updates. You are trying to enable banking apps. These apps will not play nice if it detects any bypassing and hacks done on the stock oem OS. Perhaps it is time to get a newer phone.
