Roaming service

I am currently in USA. I can see that I received voicemail from Canada, but I couldn't access it. It says since my long distance isn't activated, I cannot access my voicemail.

But before choosing public mobile, I was told by care specialist (through chat) that I can still hear voicemails and all I lose are my regular 100 minutes that I have in my 15$ plan.

Was I misguided by care specialist so that I would newly move to public mobile?

Why?

Is it that I have to activate 10$ a day roaming to listen 1 voicemail? Really?

Please help me with this situation. Thanks

Listening to your voicemail from your handset is like making a call. You can't make a call in the states without a roaming add-on.

You can use another phone to dial your number and press * at your greeting.

Or you can use a voip app like TextNow and be on wifi and make calls.

Or buy roaming add-ons.

You can also access your voicemail from a landline or any other phone line, by dialing your 10-digit phone number, selecting ‘Send’ or ‘Call’ and then pressing ‘*’ to skip the system greeting.

It's just an idea but for $8 you can get a 10 Day US Roaming talk add-on for your use whilst in US. There's other features available like text and data but to check vm you'd need just the talk portion.

Prolly a wise purchase if you're going to be in US for a few days.

So, US Talk only $8 = unlimited talk for just 8$ for 10 days.

It means i have to pay monthly 32$ (8 for 4 weeks) to make any calls within USA numbers or to Canada numbers.

and how long will my voicemails stay if i didnt hear for few days?

I moved to public mobile on October 1 because I wanted to keep my old phone number as I am moving to USA for 3-4 months. The customer service suggested me go for the cheapest $15 plan with just 100 canada wide minutes. But with voicemails that I could hear freely from USA.

But now i have to pay 8$ every ten days to hear them. I do have textnow to make calls, but all I want is the voicemails to hear freely. You suggested me something like call from another phone? and *. Now can i call my friend's USA number and access it? Please help

You were kinda misled or perhaps a misunderstanding.

You almost don't really need cell service. Since you have TextNow already, you can just use that when connected to wifi.

If you do continue with the Public Mobile account then you can receive texts in the states. But you can't text out on the account. It's been a while now but I seem to think I was able to receive calls without a roaming add-on but that's certainly not official.

Voicemail can be accessed by calling your number from another phone or your TextNow on wifi and when you hear your greeting you press * and then maybe your voicemail password that you set up initially from the handset. There's a workaround to setting up on the handset by resetting the voicemail password in the self-serve which resets it to your 10 digit phone number. Then you can use any phone or TextNow to set it up and not use minutes.

I think Textnow (or similar apps) are great. You can call in and out. Text in and out. All while on wifi. Wifi is practically everywhere these days (to exaggerate).

Your other option is a local SIM and service.

Call your cell number from any other phone that works in USA. When your voicemail message starts to play press the * star button then enter your voicemail password and Listen to your message.

Or download textnow. It works over wifi and is free to call Canada and USA. You can even pick a Canadian number in your area in Canada. Like a cell phone that works over wifi. Call, text, voicemail to the number you pick.

Voicemail messages will be automatically deleted after 10 days. You can recover them up to 48 hours after deletion by dialling in to your voicemail, then selecting ‘1’, followed by ‘9’. To protect your privacy, we recommend always requiring a password for voicemail access, even if you’re calling from your own phone."

@prudhvi033 When you are in the States all you have to do is call the Public Mobile voicemail number 647-580-4001 enter your PM number and hit * when you hear your voicemail greeting and enter your password to retrieve your messages.

Do not purchase any roaming addons and remove your PM sim from your phone when you are in the US.

since you already have textnow. think about purchasing a sim from them. you have free calls/texts in the US. and they have a $40/unlimited data plan. the next time you go to the US again, forward your pm number to your text now number and leave your pm sim in Canada. I was told that you can only forward your number while you are in Canada.(not sure if you can purchase a roaming add-on and try to forward the calls that way)
