Same number as somebody else?

Bit of a strange one, I text my friend the other day and got a reply from somebody entirely different!! Is it possible that other person had the same number as my friend(?) or did my phone mess up with the outgoing message?

@CowheadUK there was a big service outage yesterday. I wonder if that has something to do with it?

@CowheadUK Check with your contact and ask them if they changed their number.
