@Bbqbill they are usually pretty good when it comes to data usage. Check your phone data counter date. Is it set to a 30 day or monthly cycle. Also check your app usage on the phone for any huge amounts. If you feel that there was an error, then conTact the moderators and ask them to look into it for you. There are 2 ways to contact the Moderator Team:

Faster response- Get help with your account the easy way by starting a conversation with our virtual assistant, SIMon. It’ll take you to relevant help articles, or if it’s something more urgent, it can help you submit a ticket to the Moderator Team. Click here to get started.

Slower- Alternatively, you can send a private message to the Moderators by clicking here. You’ll need to be logged in to your Community account for the link to work.

Once connected to Simon, you will be asked to log in again with your community user name and password. Please do, this allows you to continue and send your message.
- Check your private message sent box (click on the envelope top right of your screen) to make sure the message was sent.

- Keep an eye on the envelope top right of your screen. The mods answer will show up there. When it does, you will be asked to verify your self service account, with your password and login. Doing so allows the process to continue. Stay safe.

Phone-side software can measure these things with great precision but with rather lousy accuracy.

Data consumption is billed as measured by the network-side machinery. There's data overheads, error correction, re-sent packets, etc. Substantial discrepancies (like yours) do occur when the network counts lots of transmitted data the device never counts as being received (especially when the device uses data across poor signal and/or with weak battery). When discrepancies do occur, the only measure which matters is the (network-side) one reported on your billing.

Also, as mentioned by others: your PM plan has a certain 30-day cycle which your device counter must correctly sync. Accumulated usage count from blurry portions of multiple cycles is meaningless.

Maybe try different usage-tracking software? You probably don't even need to uninstall whatever existing software was packaged into the OS, run them both simultaneously to compare results, although there might be a performance impact.

I've heard that certain OEM usage trackers don't count silent updates, background data, various forms of data telemetry, and other "hidden" data usage. I can't personally confirm/deny this - since I refuse to own any Apple, Google, or Samsung devices - but it does seem to be a persistently-mentioned online rumour.
