Hello it automatically starts when you run out of data on your plan you do not have to do anything

Once you use the data under your plan then it will automatically switch to the 1G promo.

It's already activated. Your phone will only use the 1GB promo once you run out of your normal data limit, and once it's used up, it will be gone.

@Lola23- why don't you add a credit card to your account? You can ask @darlicious about the Koho prepaid one if needed. Even if you don't use the credit card to pay and still use vouchers, you get an extra 500 mb of data and $2 off your bill per 30 day cycle.
