I just bought this sim card from a gentleman roughly 3 weeks ago. He never gave me the pin or email associated with the #assigned to this sim card. It's now time for me to top up my account. I was wondering, if I go and purchase a voucher, can I just top up the account by text without needing to enter the 4 digit pin associated with my account. With my previous phone provider I could do it like that. I dont want to purchase a voucher if I cant do so...

@Cass1 Yes you can do it through 611 without a pin.

Using 611 to make your payment:
1. press 1 to make payment
2. press 2 credit card ( or 1 voucher)
3. press 1 amount due.
4. Restart your phone.

You should get the phone switched over to an email account associated with you in order to get access to the self service account. Use this private message link to contact the moderators directly.

https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/notes/composepage/note-to-user-id/22437

Explain your situation. Provide them with a new email address, a new pin and ask them for a temporary password. You will have to provide additional information such as imei number ( dial *#06# to get it)

Check your private message sent box (click on the envelope top right of your screen) to make sure the message was sent. Also keep an eye on the envelope, the mods answer will show up there. Once it does, you will be asked to verify your self service account, with your password and login. Doing so allows the process to continue.
If you need to, you can also enable email notification to receive a private message notification sent to your email. Go to your community account > my settings > PREFERENCES > Private Messenger > enable "Receive email notifications for new private messages" > Save

Welcome to the community. Stay safe.

Press 1 from the main menu.

Press 1 to select payment via voucher.

Enter the 12 digit pin from your payment voucher. The location of the PIN varies depending on where you purchase your voucher; however, you will typically find it on the top or the bottom of your receipt. Below is an example, so you know what to look for:

@Cass1, curious, why did buy a SIM card from some guy? Did you know this guy or was he a total stranger?

The only reason I ask is, I hope this SIM card works, and he wasn't out to scam you and take your money. If he used the SIM and somehow deactivated his account with Public Mobile, and well, stuck it back together in the card adapter, it would totally suck, to be honest.

Crossing my fingers, it works out for you.

If you know anyone, make sure you ask their referral code so that you can get $10 credit.

@Cass1, before I forget, there was a post in the Lounge where you can get up to 20% off vouchers. Please read that here. 20% is better than no discount. I do believe a few people in the community have bought. Read the post, and you should be able to figure out who bought what!

And welcome to Public Mobile!

But more worrisome is how you acquired your sim and phone number. Was it a preactivated sim card but still new in the original card? You are leaving yourself at risk of sim jacking, fraudulent porting of the number, identity theft and serious financial loss if your phone number is tied your bank, credit card or email accounts.

You also have no access to your account but this man does.... you need to contact the moderators and supply your phone number to see if a self serve account has been set up or if you can supply them with an email to have it set up for you so you have access and control over your account and phone.

@Cass1 wrote:

I just bought this sim card from a gentleman roughly 3 weeks ago. But, my question is in your first couple sentences.

"bought this sim card from a gentleman roughly 3 weeks ago. He never gave me the pin or email associated with the #assigned to this sim card."

Did you just buy a phone with a public mobile number? You will need access to the self serve account in order to top up your account and use all of its features. Did he give you an email or login for the account?

If you just bought the SIM card from him and it had not been used before it would not have an account associated with it. This is where I am confused, is it just a SIM card or is it a phone you purchased with a SIM card in it?

But the second half of your statement sounds like you are already using it. If this is the case, contact the moderators, you will need the information associated with the account in order to gain access to the login.

(edit) I would really caution you against using a SIM card from a stranger. If he has all the info on the phone after a few weeks of you using it he can port the SIM and with it all your info, open your bank email or anything associated with your number if you don't have things password protected.

Contact moderators here: https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/notes/composepage/note-to-user-id/22437
