Instead of call forwarding all calls to a fax machine for a period of time as suggested in the article @Dpriceless17 linked to, you can do this selectively by sending only blocked or declined calls to a dead-end number. With public mobile, the number these calls forward to can be a US number for instance, since it let's you configure them, but they will never go through since PM doesn't actually allow forwarding to US numbers resulting in an endless ring, or fast busy for the caller, instead of being directed to your voicemail where they can further annoy you with messages you have to delete.

In brief, to set busy/declined conditional call forwarding: *67*8080000000#

To reset it back to default voicemail: ##67#

Then, block numbers as they call you - the next time they call it will auto-decline. You can also manually decline the calls as they call the first time too.

Unanswered calls, and calls while your phone is offline/out of coverage will continue to forward to voicemail as usual.

I wrote about using conditional call forwarding to reduce spam calls previously here: https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Discussions/Fun-with-Conditional-Call-forwarding-and-reduce-SPAM-calls-while/m-p/449594#M100378

Why is some strange persons name showing up as the owner of this number when I call family and friends? Is someone trying to steal my number which I’ve had for several years. I’m getting a lot of calls recently from other countries even though I’m registered on the DNC list.

With Public Mobile, only your number is actually transmitted for outgoing caller ID, not the name. If others are seeing a name, it is because it is either in their address book, or because they have a "helper app" installed which is getting the name from some online database.

Some of these apps are called Smart Call, TrueCaller, maybe you can ask if they have something like those installed on their phone.

Here's a link to a previous topic about this, and some links to get 'delisted':

https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Getting-Started/Name-attached-to-my-number/m-p/484597#M96833
