I believe CRTC passed law Dec 1st 2017&amp;nbsp; that they have to come unlocked and carriers will now un-lock locked phones for free if people still had locked phones. Most you have to contact old carrier however Samsung has been unlocking some over their chat.&lt;/P&gt;</description>

At least for phones from carriers.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;HR /&gt;&lt;/BLOCKQUOTE&gt;&lt;P&gt;For the longest time, even for some models before mandatory unlocking came into effect, Samsung phones were not locked when you took them out of the packaging even if purcahsed from a carrier but locked after you inserted your SIM card.&amp;nbsp; Samsung does know which devices were sold through carrier.&amp;nbsp; It's those devices that were sold before December 2017 by carriers that Samsung Canada sometimes doesn't want to get involved.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;There are some Samsung phone models that were sold that were not linked to any specific carrier. They did however self lock to the carrier of the first inserted device. For such devices, Samsung will always help with the unlocking.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;For some models sold afer Dececember 2017 by carriers, some Samsung devices did the same self-locking.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;</description>
