Not receiving Emergency Alerts

I haven't been receiving any emergency alerts on my phone ever since they started testing the service in our area (Toronto, Ontario) Today again there was an emergency alert for a potentially life threatening issue (relating to nearby nuclear power plant) which thankfully turned out to be sent in error.

However its a bit dissapointing that I can't receve these alerts. My questions,

1 - Do other people on public mobile receive alerts? Does public mobile support this?

2 - If PM does support emergency alerts, then is it possibly a feature my phone does not have?

I have searched online on how to enabl/disable theese alerts, but I don't have any such settings on my phone.

My phone is the Sony Xperia XZ Premium (G8142) Dual sim model for Asia/Europe)

Purhcase in fall 2017, and it is running Android 9.

EDIT: I also have phone and text plan with data and it shows 4G+ on my network when I'm connected so I assume that means LTE

@erotavlas That's a great question. I am interested as well. Never received any emergency alerts for a couple of months.

Yes, publie mobile does support alerts, like AMBER alerts. I have received a few in Alberta.

Do you have a data option in your plan? From my understanding, you will need to have data, set to LTE to get these messages.

Got the alert today. So it probably is a hardware issue. I'm in North York.

@Dunkmanyes I have data on my plan and i'm pretty sure its LTE, (says 4G+) on the status bar up top

Customers do not need data or any type of internet connection to receive official emergency alerts. The only requirement is an LTE network.

With data turned off, these alerts would still be received.

I was curious about this as well. This week I have been receiving many weather alerts, however I have never received an amber alert or the alert about the power plant. I found that strange.

I wonder if it has anything to do with your phone being a model for Asia/Europe? My phone is a Chinese phone, global model and I got both the msgs this morning.

Wow, if your phone really doesn't do the alerts, then maybe all those people who call 911 about receiving the alerts need to switch to your model...

I received both alerts today on my Pixel 3a with cell data turned off. My older Nexus 4 did not receive the alerts.

The Nexus 4 doesn't officially work on LTE networks, and in some some software versions, abilitiy to connect to LTE was disabled.

Sorry the same thing is happening to me. Never received any emergency alerts (mobile data always on) and I am using a Samsung Galaxy S9 - which is listed as a certified compatible device. Any advice could be great, thanks.

I couldn't figure out how to enable it before either, or if my phone even supports it. So I just downloaded the app called Alertable from the google play store. I've gotten all the alerts since I installed it.

Mobile data isn't related to the offfical emergency alert system. You do not need data to be enabled. Unfortunately, many official looking websites and news agencies got this wrong and that false information quickly spread. You do, however, need to be connected to an LTE network.

That is correct, these alerts are delivered via LTE broadcast channel BCCH in SIB12. It has nothing to do with data.
