Can I use my phone in U.K?

I'm going on a rush trip to England in 2 weeks. Will I be able to use data or WhatsApp? Total idiot with technology so all the talk of sims, etc., is above my head.

You won't be able to use Public Mobile services there. You can certainly connect to wifi and do internet things that way. I won't go on above your head 🙂

@englishrose PM will not work in UK as mentioned above. Depending on your budget and compromises, you might want to look into getting a local service from UK or use WiFi calling apps such as Fongo. Our friend @Luddite is a big fan of a service alled Giffgaff.

That is a really good deal!

If you didn't know already Canada is one of the most expensive countries to buy cell service and that European sim card really shows it.

Good options mentioned above. As others said, you cannot use Public Mobile overseas.

If you don't want the hassle of ordering a sim yourself, your best bet may be to visit cell phone kiosk when you arrive in UK. They can offer you something that fits your needs and make sure it works with your phone.

Btw if hotel wifi or local wifi is good enough for you, then you won't need anything else.

You have a phone. You have Public Mobile cell service in it. The _phone_ connects to wifi...not Public Mobile.

You could purchase a local sim or Gigsky. If you have access to wifi then you could use apps like WhatsApp, Skype, Fongo, Textnow.

@englishrose The UK offers the cheapest mobile plans in all of europe. Simply buy your SIM there and choose the plan best suited to your needs. There are no roaming charges as euro member states are considered one large country when it comes to mobile use.
