Cubot X20 - Android 9

Hello,

I have an iPhone 6 Plus, with a SIM card from Public Mobile, everthing works properly.

I am trasferring the SIM to a Cubot X20 (Andorid 9)
SMS works both ways

Mobile Data seems to work just fine

Calls cannot go though in either direction.

I have done a reset to the phone, multiple restarts, APN was automatically filled and it's all grey-out (I cannot modified anything) and it seems correct as I've found APN info in this site.

No calls can be made or received,

Any idea if this something that Public Mobile must look into?

@Billy_Montreal APN may not be correct. This might be a case of it needing to be set via borrowing a freedom SIM card to allow you to make changes. Let me look up...

The minimum pm supports:

3G UMTS/W-CDMA/HSPA: B2 (1900) and B5 850 4G FDD-LTE: B4, B12 Any phone you are considering should ideally have 3G B2, B5 and LTE B4, B12 (or B17 instead of B12) for minimum coverage. If your phone does not have all recommended bands, you may have poor coverage/no service/slow data

This phone has no "real" coverage in Canada, you will need a different device.

@darlicious porting cannot be the issue, since outbound calls are also affected.

@darlicious APN has absolutely nothing to do with calling

@Billy_Montreal your phone does not have the two needed 3G frequencies (1900MHz "B2" and 850MHz "B5") needed to do calling with Public Mobile. This phone is a poor choice for use with PM.

@srlawren Thanks I was doing a little typing out loud in my brain til I found the frequency problem for 3G calling.....you did my correcting for me...you should be my editor all the time!

@srlawren I should just give up on trying to conquer copy and text and just take a photo of everything and upload it. I waste more time fighting with computer skill shortcomings than anything else....its all there in my brain getting it on the screen is the problem.....

@darlicious no worries. Try treating your community posts like you would a business email: type up a draft and think about it before you click the button. It's not a perfect system and sometimes I forget not to rush, but it works.

As for "all the time": I'm afraid I'm not looking for new opportunities at the moment, but I suppose if the compensation were compelling enough I might consider it. Private message me the job posting and maybe I'll submit you my cv.

@srlawrenIt would have to be a job sharing position to start...so income splitting if your ok with two cents worth of my four cents an hour...may be tax free though...

@Ed404 @Billy_Montreal I think the solution is put the SIM back in the iPhone return the new phone and do some phone shopping on boxing day.

@Billy_Montreal it's not compatible for making/receiving calls.

@Billy_Montreal if you're okay without any calling, then this phone is "okay" for use with Public Mobile. SInce you're here asking, I'm going to assume that you're not okay without calling. In that case, this phone is quite incompatible. It was sold for use in another region. Some phones sold that way have compatible bands anyway, but many don't.

You have these options:

1) Choose a phone that works with PM and continue using PM

2) Use this phone at a provider that offer VoLTE calling with 3rd party phones--don't quote me on this but that might only be Rogers and Fido. I could be wrong.

3) Use this phone at a provider that operates a 2G GSM network you can use for calling. That includes Rogers and Fido, and I believe Chatr subscribers also have access to Rogers' GSM network. Do note that Rogers is shutting down their GSM network at the end of 2020 so you have 1 year left in this scenario.

@Billy_Montreal Check out the Umidigi A5 pro on Amazon.ca similar features but is compatible with pm. Boxing day should see it go back down to cyber Monday pricing $135 cdn all in. Free shipping....comes highly recommended by many around here.

@srlawren I'm pretty sure the position requires solution sharing along with the income splitting I do believe the benefit package is quite generous....

@Billy_Montreal As data works there is one additional option to those suggested by @srlawren . Use a voip app such as https://www.textnow.com/ or https://www.fongo.com/ with wifi or cellular data.
