Xiaomi Mi 9 SE - Compatibility?

Hi,

I'm lookin at buying a Xiaomi Mi 9 SE phone. Will it be compatible with Public Mobile's 3G and 4G LTE networks? Are there any concerns?

From Xiaomi's website, it shows the following bands supported:

GSM: B2/3/5/8
UMTS: B1/2/4/5/8
FDD LTE: B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/20/28
TDD LTE: 38/40

GSMarena lists the following network bands for this phone:

NETWORK Technology
GSM / CDMA / HSPA / LTE

While researching, one site mentioned something about having to confirm with Public Mobile to make sure the phone is not "disallowed" from using their network.

Looks like it'll work though.

EDIT..it's not listed in the PM Compatibility section...but it'll work just fine as long as it's unlocked and not blacklisted somewhere...(reported as stolen)

This phone will work fine, although it's missing the 700 MHz bands on LTE Xiaomi phones never have 700 MHz capability. Rule of thumb, if bands 4 is present, phone is compatible.

Where are you purchasing this phone?

In my opinion, I'd be careful because depending on where you're purchasing the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE phone vendors can easily install spyware, keyloggers or worse on these type of phones. If you're purchasing from a reputable vendor then you can ignore what I've written.

I just thought I'd let you know the worse that could happen. I know Amazon isn't selling these devices, so I'm assuming the vendor may not be mainstream.

I have ordered a couple of Xiaomi phones via Aliexpress in the past without any issues.

I am not particularly concered about getting tech from China as I do not trust US-based companies like Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Facebook, and the list goes on.

Also, if one is concerned about Android/Miui coming from China, you can alway load another custom ROM.

You're right on about finding reputable vendors. I noticed on Aliexpress that the prices for the phones with the same basic specs can very widely. Then I noticed that some carry the standard, global set of frequencies, while the cheaper ones use a global ROM, but are missing 4G frequencies common in N. America, such as band 4.

This phone should work with PM. Freedom has issues, from my own experience, with lesser known phones not being compatible, because of different frequency bands. Call quality not good with Freedom, either.

Yeah loading a custom ROM is the way to go!

Fully supported on 3G. Mostly supported for LTE. It's missing LTE Band 12/17, which would help in rural areas.

I believe the phone is unlocked. Iam using Xiaomi too and it's compatible with PM with no issues!
