If you don't want to use up minutes you can retrieve you VM s by dialing the PM main vm number from a landline or a wifi based calling app like Google Hangouts Dialer.

PM VM number area code 580-4001

Callers dropping to voicemail do not cost minutes. Using a different phone to listen does not cost minutes.

Using the phone pressing and holding 1 (by default) will cost minutes.

Minutes are rounded up to the next minute.

I know it is not a direct answer to the question, however it is a practical one. Long distance minutes cost $5/500 minutes. Let's not fret over a penny or two.
