Make sure you're dialling the proper international codes to where you want to text to.

CALL INDIA FROM YOUR MOBILE PHONE OR LANDLINE

Step 1: Exit code – 011. Your international phone number should start with North America exit code 011.
Step 2: Country code. Followed by India Country code 91.
Step 3: Area code and number. ...
EXAMPLE: 011 91 9x xxxx xxxx.

You always need an exit code from the country you're in to get to another country. Then you always need a country code to select which country. Then whatever the other end phone system has for dialing. We have area code and prefix here before the final 4 digits. The US and Canada are regarded as the same country in the global telephone system. The other option is to use + in front of the country code instead of 011.

And finally of course that your recipient can receive international texts.

Try both 011 and + as suggested. Are you using the country code 91?
