According to Wikipedia: An oracle is a person or agency considered to provide wise and insightful counsel or prophetic predictions or precognition of the future, inspired by the gods. As such it is a form of divination.

In the context of the Community, it's just a member rank. Public Mobile choose members to be assigned to title, and they may consider things such as: length of time as a customer, number of posts, number of bravos or solutions, recommendations/nominations by others, and other factors that might come into play when Public Mobile makes this decision.

PM Community Moderators are paid employees. They can access your Self-Serve account, make changes, etc.

PM Community Oracles are forum administrators. They cannot access your Self-Serve account. They do have access to Community forum admin functions (within limits). They are PM customers "paid" with a special ($20) Community Reward and some perks (which is hardly worth all the time they invest in the Community, but they don't really do it for the money).

In the end PM is a business out to make some money. But the PM Community is still an excellent place to ask questions, find answers, and fix problems with All Things Smartphone. The Oracles were each chosen for specific reasons, not the least of which is their comprehensive knowledge about how things work with PM (along with many other related and unrelated topics).
