Hi,

I have a children's watch for basic communication, and I cannot get it to recognize the Public mobile SIM. It's called a Lil Tracker watch. When I put the SIM in my unlocked phone, I had to change the APN settings to get it to work. Has anyone been able to use a Public Mobile sim with one of these watches?

Thanks.

2G is almost completely phased out. Rogers network has a few small regions (like MacKenzie, BC and some parts of the Hwy 1 corridor) which still fallback on 2G GSM service, but even those should be upgraded to 3G/4G within a year or two. Some newer phones don't even bother to include hardware support 2G modes. So I doubt an exclusively 2G-based device can still connect (unless you live somewhere like MacKenzie), or if it can then it'll only work for a short time. I think Telus and Bell networks no longer support 2G, it's basically already gone. Some of the "little" operators in upper Canada might still use 2G for a while, their mobile networks need to cover a lot of low-density area (with rugged terrain and cold weather exposure) so they probably can't afford to rush into network-wide upgrades too often.

Lil Tracker apparently comes in different versions, only the older ones are strictly limited to 2G.

And other kid-friendly (durable) devices of this sort are also on the market, some of these are explicitly compatible with PM (Telus/Bell) .

https://www.imore.com/best-gps-trackers-kids
