Long distance charges may apply?

Why does my phone sometimes say that long distance charges may apply when I’m

calling certain numbers? The numbers I’m calling are in Canada and I have unlimited talk and text in Canada and USA on my plan.

Just ignore that message and let the call go through. You won't be charged any long distance charges.

Ok, thanks. I was concerned about it, but as long as it doesn’t cost me anything, I’m happy to ignore it.

Nope...you're good to go. You can dial 1 before area code and won't hear that message but in any case...no long distance charges will be applied.

It is a good idea to store all your contact numbers with a leading Plus (+) sign and country code. This way you will not get the message and if you travel internationally you are all set. The Plus sign automatically selects the long distance access number in any country. The system automatically figures out if local or long distance.

Example of numbers stored for North America: +1 xxx-xxx-xxxx

For Germany for instance: +49 xxxx-xx-xx-xx

For international service outside Canada and USA you will have to get a local SIM card.
